A tale of two tangerines

Mr Groceries loves a good taste test. Once he made five kinds of pickles, carefully packaged and labeled them, and then shipped them to his brother in Duluth and his sister in Las Vegas, so we could all do one together via videoconference.
So when I told him that Good Groceries was getting two types of tangerines from Friends Ranches in Ojai, Calif., it was on.
We received a case each of the Pixie variety and the W. Murcott. The farmers say that the Pixie is their bestseller, but that chefs swear by the Murcott for its rich color and flavor.
Our experience: Both varieties are easy to peel and segment. The Murcott is a bit flatter in profile. Both are super-juicy and delicious, but in the end Mr Groceries chose the slight acidity of the Pixie while I went with the sweet, sweet Murcott.
This is our last shipment of the year, so get some yourself and pick your favorite for next season!
