"I've kept a bay leaf tree (Laurus nobilis) for many years. She lives outside in a large pot for most of the year, and then comes inside for the winter. These are not 'unknown origin who knows how long they have been sitting in a dusty warehouse tastes like nothing bay leaves.' These are freshly dried and fragrant. Sizes will vary somewhat (as they do on the tree), so in some cases you'll need to use 2 smaller leaves to equal one large one."
